Construction

An industry where the technology conversation is usually one layer above where the problem actually is.

What I have seen

Construction organisations are typically presented with tools — BIM, GIS, drone survey, project platforms — before anyone has established what the site actually knows and when the office finds out. The gap between those two is where cost overruns are born, and no tool closes it by itself.

What tends to work

Fixing the reporting line before buying the reporting tool. When a site can record progress once, in a form the commercial function trusts, most of the promised benefits of the platform arrive on their own. When it cannot, the platform becomes a second set of books.

Where I have worked

Group-level technology across construction and contracting subsidiaries, and delivery of supply-chain and project systems in that context. I spoke on this subject at Construct Talks in Jeddah in 2024.

How I work in this sector is set out under advisory.
